In 1913, the first move to open a school was made by John Payne, who wrote to the Education Department on March 23, 1913. A tent type school was built, costing 197 pounds, and was opened on September 2. Fourteen pupils enrolled on the first day. Mrs Ellen Mitchell, wife of a selector, who lived six miles from the school, was appointed Head Teacher.

The township of Meandarra in 1915 had been surveyed and a few allotments had been sold, but no buildings, except the school had been erected, no roads formed and the site was thickly covered with Brigalow-Belah and Wilga.

Cattle was the main industry and dairying was also carried on, the cream being taken by carrier to Tara and later from Camp station to Miles.

In the early thirties the old school building became too small and was sold, and the new building was erected on virtually the same site. Over time three new buildings have been added, to cope with the rising number of students.

On August 15, 1995 disaster struck with the main teaching building being lost to fire. It was believed that a bar heater set a curtain alight, when turned on in the morning. The school felt the blow very hard as this added to the community's strain from the previous five years of drought. The local memorial hall was used as classrooms until the new building was opened.

The new school buildings included general learning block stage 1, student covered area and amenities block, were opened on 26 April 1997, by Honourable Howard Hobbs, MLA, Honourable Bob Quinn, MLA, and Honourable Ray Connor, MLA.

The school has had many improvements over the years, such as turf on the main oval, swimming pool, Striving for Excellence multipurpose classroom, playgrounds and landscaped gardens. These improvements have added to the look of the school and have aided in the learning outcomes of the students in our school.
